Mrs. Frances Lou Key Nichols, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, September 2, 2021. Mrs. Nichols was born October 14, 1935, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Davis Leonard and Mamie Sue McHone Key. Frances was a homemaker and a faithful member of Highland Park Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Reta Nichols and Kevin and Jennifer Nichols; her grandchildren, Brad and Carrie Nichols, Justin Nichols and Ryan Kelly, Jordan Nichols, Matthew Nichols, and Keshia and Justin Sims; her great-grandchildren, Connor Nichols, Kinston Nichols, Cohen Nichols, and Jeremiah Sims; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy Smith and Ann and Wade Cruise; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Gilmer and Judy Key and Linda Key; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ray Nichols; a son, Kenneth Ray Nichols; a brother, Wayne Key; and a brother-in-law, Billy Smith. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Dover Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Chris McMillian officiating. No formal visitation will be held. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their love and care during Frances’ illness. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
