Frances Elizabeth Golihew Thorne

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Golihew Thorne, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, January 10, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Thorne was born October 19, 1928, in Washington, DC, to the late William Jefferson and Nellie Quick Golihew. Frances was a meat cutter at Safeway Inc. for many years. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and John Paul and JoAnn and Ray Worthington; her grandchildren, John and Laura Fox and James “Jimmy” and Becky Fox; and her great-grandchildren, James Michael Fox, Nicole Jean Fox, Tabitha Cheyanne Fox, Katherine Lynne Hartgraves, and Alexis Marie Fox. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thorne was preceded in death by her husband, John Elmer Thorne; a son, Lewis Edgar Milam, Jr.; and a brother, William Golihew. The funeral service will be Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Wayburn Mosley officiating. A private interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home.
