Frances Wolfe Gwyn

Mrs. Frances Wolfe Gwyn, age 104, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy.  She was born on February 14, 1919, in Watauga County Tennessee to the late Frank and Callie Rhea Wolfe.  Mrs. Gwyn came to Mt. Airy to go to Martin Memorial School of  Nursing.  After graduation she went to work for Northern Surry Hospital where she worked for the next 42 years and retired as a head Maternity Nurse.  After retiring she worked at Hope Valley for several years and was also a volunteer for Hospice.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her.  Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jean Jones (Michael), Sara Leach (Walter); grandchildren, Pamela Leach, Lauren Simmons (Kevin), Rebecca Dowell (Shawn), Kelly Utt (Josh); nine great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gwyn was preceded in death by her husband, Gibson Gwyn; great-grandchildren, Kaden Dowell, Gregory Upchurch; sisters, Eva Baker, and Dimple Houston; brothers, Raymond, and Rex Wolfe.  There will be no formal services at the funeral home at this time.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Mrs. Gwyn to the charity of the donor’s choice.
