Mr. Frank Dee Chilton, 79, of 2556 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2007, at his home. Mr. Chilton was born October 10, 1927, in Surry County, to the late Marshall Andrew and Minnie Ella Hill Chilton. Frank served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Princeton during World War II and was a devoted member of VFW Post 2019 in Mount Airy. Mr. Chilton owned and operated Banner Star Tobacco Warehouse for many years and was a member of Westfield Friends Meeting. He is survived by twin daughters and a special son-in-law, Kathy and Doug Simpson of Pinnacle and Kay Chilton Draughn of Dobson; a granddaughter, Emily Simpson Faw of Pilot Mountain; and a great-grandson, Hunter Douglas Faw of Pilot Mountain. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Frances Marion Chilton; triplet sons, Ronnie Chilton, Richey Chilton, and Rodney Chilton; two sisters, Irene Love and Jane Wilson; and three brothers, Quentin Chilton, Marshall Landon Chilton, and Kline Chilton. The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 23, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Kermit L. Gray, and burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
