Mr. Frank Kirkman, 92, of 917 Quaker Road, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, June 3, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Kirkman was born April 28, 1918, in Surry County, son of the late John and Drucilla Watson Kirkman. Frank retired as a truck driver from North Carolina Granite Corporation after 40 years of service and was a member of the Brethren faith. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Beatrice Chaney Kirkman of the home; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Vernice Johnson of Raleigh, Evelyn and Paul Secrest of Dobson, Glenda and Ronnie Mears of Mount Airy, Judy Kirkman of Ventura, CA, and Debra and the Rev. Gary Sawyers of Ararat; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Nellie Kirkman of Mount Airy; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Lydia and Zeb Gibson of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirkman was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie Hensley, Eunice Haynes, and Zelphia Frye; and four brothers, Ellis Kirkman, Hasten Kirkman, Elbert Kirkman, and Grady Kirkman. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Gary Sawyers officiating. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the love, care, and compassion shown to Frank during his illness.
