Frank Grey LaPrade, Jr., a resident of Mount Airy, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina. He was born in Martinsville, Virginia, on May 10, 1943, to the late Frank Grey LaPrade, Sr. and Ann Elizabeth Marshall LaPrade. He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Thomas Marshall LaPrade. He is survived by his wife, Jane Kirk LaPrade; a son, Frank Grey LaPrade III and wife, Heidi Stock; and two grandchildren, Madeline Elizabeth LaPrade and David Grey LaPrade. A 1961 graduate of Martinsville High School, he was thereafter graduated from Wake Forest College with a Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude in English, and from Wake Forest University Law School with a Juris Doctor Cum Laude. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity. He served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army as an Aide-de-Camp to General Frank Linnell. Prior to law school, he was employed as a plant supervisor by Southern Bell Telephone Company in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After his graduation from law school, he was law clerk to Judge Raymond B. Mallard, Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Thereafter, he moved to Mount Airy and formed the law firm of Woltz, Lewis & LaPrade with H.O. Woltz, Sr. and Fred E. Lewis III. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Mount Airy, and was a member of the Pacesetters Sunday School Class. Grey was an avid reader and literary critic, and surrounded himself with books. A memorial service and celebration of Grey's life will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends during the hour before the service. Interment will take place at 2:30 PM at Roselawn Cemetery in Martinsville, Virginia. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 North Main Street, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030, or to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, North Carolina 27017.
