Mr. Frank Francis Solters, Jr., 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Solters was born June 12, 1924, in Grindstone, PA, to the late Frank Francis Solters, Sr. and Elizabeth Thomas Solters. He worked for many years at Jackson Brothers Clothing Store. He was a distribution manager at Quality Mills in Mount Airy and was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church. Mr. Solters served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a pitcher for Mount Airy Graniteers baseball team, who also played many other positions. A natural athlete, he excelled at his favorite sport, golf. Mr. Solters is survived by a daughter, Katherine E.G. Solters of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean S. and Sherman Dailey of Lancaster, NY; and a niece, Carole Fetterman of Lancaster, NY. In addition to his parents, Mr. Solters was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret Gilbert Solters. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, May 16, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Holy Angels Catholic Church, officiated by Father Eric Kowalski. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 PM until the time for the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Surry Animal Rescue, c/o Linda Mooney, 112 Quail Run Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the Solters family.
