Mr. Franklin DeWitt Dobson, 77, of Dobson, husband of Katie Lee France Dobson, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Willowbrook Healthcare. He was born January 25, 1933, in Surry County, to the late Abraham Harvey and Lura Ada Tucker Dobson. Mr. Dobson retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 26 years of service and was a faithful a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church, where he served as a Chairman and Deacon. He was also an active member of West Yadkin Masonic Lodge #806. Mr. Dobson accepted the Lord at an early age. "D" enjoyed his cows, gardening, hunting, and fishing. His Friday nights were spent watching his favorite sport, wrestling. He enjoyed his family gatherings and would sometimes pull out his guitar and strum a few strings as the family sang everything from blues, jazz, to gospel hymns. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife 23 years, Katie Lee France Dobson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Bren and Freddie Speaks of Yadkinville; three sons, the Rev. Tracy and wife Myrtle Dobson and Leroy Dobson, all of Newport News, VA, and the Rev. Joseph and wife Iris Dobson of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Michael Ferguson, Freddie Speaks, Jr., Sgt. Qudarro Williams,Tony of the U.S. Army, Perry Williams, Joy Jenkins, and Robin Williams; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Willie Hughes of Boonville and Magaline Boles of Elkin; a sister-in-law, Tina Dobson; a special niece, Pat Kennedy; a special nephew, Wayne and wife Lorine Boles; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dobson was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ferguson; a son, J.W. Dobson; a sister, Martha Boles; six brothers, James, Calvin, Richard, Harvey, Jr. Leroy, Sr. and Ernest Dobson and a beloved granddaughter, Tabitha Dobson. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, July 2, 2010, in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, by the Rev. Timothy Porter. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic rites by West Yadkin Lodge #806. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
