Mr. Franklin Monroe Riggs, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, April 6, 2023, at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility. Mr. Riggs was born August 20, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Brady and Lila Snow Riggs. Franklin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He proudly served our country in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean Conflict. Franklin will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Jessie Lee Frost Riggs; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Tim and Margaret Riggs, Tommy Riggs, Tony and Teresa Riggs, and Travis Riggs; a stepdaughter and her husband, Pam and David Flippin; a stepson and his wife, Greg and Debbie Edwards; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a special sister, Ellen Riggs Freeman; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riggs was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sherry Riggs; four sisters, Louise Riggs Tucker, Lorene Riggs Marion, Irene Riggs Collins, and Dorothy Riggs Casey; and three brothers, Elmer Riggs, Delmar Riggs, and Brady Riggs, Jr. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Brian Knight officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
