Mr. Franklin Pierce Towe, 82, of Cana, VA, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a member of Epworth Untied Methodist Church. Mr. Towe worked for most of his life as a farmer and TV/radio repairman. He served the people of Carroll County, VA, many years as a local Judge of Election and as the Emergency Services Coordinator of the county. In that position, Mr. Towe was instrumental in the training of local fire and rescue squads in Haz-Mat and radiological response. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sykes Towe; his parents, J. Fulton and Lena Westmoreland Towe; five brothers; and a sister. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Danny Terry of Holly Springs; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Barry and Kristie Towe of Cana, VA, and Dr. Benjamin and Elizabeth Towe of Martinez, GA; granddaughters, Kara Towe of Cana, VA, Heather Towe of Charlottesville, VA, Mandy Rumsey and husband, Grant, of Greenville, SC, Sheri Towe of Blacksburg, VA, Robin Terry of Cary, and Deana Hipwell and her husband, Chris, of Winston-Salem; a great-granddaughter, Laynie Hipwell; and a brother and sister-in-law, Harrison and Eva Sue Towe of Mount Airy. He will be loved and missed by many other family and friends as well as his beloved beagle, Puppy Zoe. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Epworth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:30 to 8:30 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
