Mr. Franklin Delon Winesett, Sr., age 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Winesett was born in Surry County on May 7, 1934, to the late Alexander Lemuel Winesett and Bertha Murphy Winesett. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend he’ll be deeply missed by all who knew him. He had worked for many years as a motor grader operator for Claude Golding Inc. and loved mechanical work with small engines. Mr. Winesett loved making people laugh with clean jokes and funny stories. Many sturdy and beautiful dog houses were made by him to be gifted to Humane Society. If he wasn’t at home, one could find him at Libby Hill eating his favorite food, shrimp. He loved to play the guitar and even kept the graveyard of Eng and Chang Bunker mowed and trimmed. Mr. Winesett was a believer in recycling, filling many truck beds with items found lying around. He spent the last few months at Shuler’s Assisted Living in Kernersville. Mr. Winesett leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Donald Jessup of Walkertown, Theresa and Fred Emery of Fernandina Beach, Florida; son, Frank Winesett, Jr. of Pfafftown; grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, and Aaron Jessup, Jessica Winesett-LaValley, Matt Winsett; great grandchildren, Ethan Jessup, Leah Jessup-Avila and Jonatan Avila, Kayla and Edward Kochin, Gabrielle, Nathan and Atlantis Jessup, Madison and Maverick Winesett, Carson Wheeler, Troy , Baron and Olivia LaValley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Winesett was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sophinie “Penny” Winesett; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Lou Payne and Mondale Thomas Payne. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at White Plains Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with the Rev. David Tucker and Rev. Daniel Jessup officiating. A burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to White Plains Baptist Church, 609 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Winesett family.
