Mr. Fred David Reece, 89, of Lowgap, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010, at The Bill Heffner VA Hospital. Mr. Reece was born May 2, 1921, in Canton, to Lawson Pinkney and Flora Inman Reece. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II, was a member of The Disabled American Veterans, Eden Chapter 63, and a member of American Legion Post 123. Mr. Reece attended Restoration Worship Center as long as his health permitted. Surviving are his loving wife, Frances Queen Reece of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Christine Reece of Greensboro, Dale and Linda Reece of Candler, Don and Bonnie Reece of Asheville, and Darrell and Teena Reece of Pleasant Garden; a stepdaughter, Sheila Goins and her husband, Roger, of Canton; grandchildren, Kim Coward, Lori Reece, Stacy Couch, Kim Storie, Wendy Holliday, Holly Reece, Kevin Reece, and Elizabeth Penney; stepgrandchildren, Brandon Goins and Felicia Jones; and fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reece was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Conner Reece, mother of his sons; sisters, Mae Lail and Hazel Hooper; and brothers, Carter Reece, Rufus Reece, Luther Reece, Walter Reece, and Lawson P. Reece, Jr. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Keith Nix officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery in Galax, VA, with military honors by American Legion Post 123. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
