Mr. Fred McKinley Sidden, 82, of Dobson, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010, in Patrick County, VA. He was born October 31, 1927, in Surry County, to the late John Alexander and Annettie Golden Sidden. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Sidden was a retired quality control manager and was self-employed for 15 years until retirement. He was a faithful member of Dobson United Methodist Church and served as the trustee chairman for several years. Fred was a graduate of Mountain Park School. Surviving are his wife, Mary Miller Sidden of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janice and Calvin Deal of High Point and Terri Cook of Dobson and her fiancée, Scott Shirley, of Winston-Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Cathy Sidden of State Road, Robert and Gay Sidden of Southport, and Philip and Teresa Sidden of Sanford; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Winks of Richmond, VA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Stonestreet, Ettie Key, and Ruby Wilmoth; and four brothers, Taft Sidden, Harvey Sidden, Thomas Sidden, and Philip Sidden. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Dobson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kathy Early officiating. Burial will follow in the Grassy Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery in State RoadC. His body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the service. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Dobson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 497, Dobson, NC 27017, or to Foothills Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1065, Dobson, NC 27017.

The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Dobson United Methodist Church PO Box 497, Dobson, NC 27017 or to the Foothills Food Pantry PO Box 1065, Dobson, NC 27017.
