Mrs. Freda Opal Martin McHone, 93, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Central Continuing Care with her daughter and other family and friends by her side. Mrs. McHone, the widow of Abraham Lincoln McHone, was born May 26, 1917, in Cap (Carroll County), VA to the late Charles Lewis and Ada Ama Williams Martin. She was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a retired textile worker and attended the Mount Airy Church of God as long as health permitted. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda M. and Dwight McAlexander of Mount Airy; a grandson and his wife, Allen McAlexander and Roxanne Lovell of Havertown, PA; and two great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Grace McAlexander of Havertown, PA. In addition to her husband who passed away in 1957, Mrs. McHone was preceded in death by five sisters, Essie Fleming, Vera Mills, Nola Martin, Mae Martin, and Bertie Stone; two brothers, Roby Martin and Carl Martin; half-brothers, Roy Martin, Roscoe "Ross" Martin, and O.C. Martin; and a half-sister, Lula Felts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Airy Church of God, P.O. Box 1445, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to the Mount Airy Pentecostal Holiness Church, 132 Chadwick Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family is very grateful to Dr. Catalin Burciu, the employees of Central Continuing Care, the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, the Rev. Tommy Vass, the Rev. Charles Powers and his wife, Cathy, the Rev. Tony Hayworth, Chris Fleming, Preston Bobbitt, and the many other people who were so special to Freda during her stay at Central Continuing Care. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Tommy Vass and the Rev. Charles Powers officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at Moody Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the time for Mrs. McHone to be taken to the cemetery for the graveside service.
