Mr. Garland "Dale" Poindexter, 57, devoted Christian husband of Etta Beasley Poindexter, of Siloam passed away on Saturday March 10, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Surry County on March 3, 1950 to the late Willie Jones and Kathleen Eads Poindexter. Mr. Poindexter was retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as a Making Specialist after more than 37 years of service. He was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Siloam where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and was the head of the bus ministry. He was also previously a member Friendly Chapel Church in Pilot Mountain where he served in the bus ministry and taught Sunday School. Surviving are his loving wife of 38 years, Etta Beasley Poindexter of the home; three sons, Garland Dale Poindexter, Jr. of Atlanta, GA., Shaun Jason Poindexter and Brandon Ashley Poindexter both of Siloam; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Leonard Childress of Ararat, NC, Jean and James A. Davis of East Bend, NC, and Brenda and Pat Grizzell of Siloam, NC; three brothers and sisters-in-law, J. W. and "Sissy" Poindexter, Kenneth Poindexter and Wayne Poindexter all of Siloam, NC; his mother-in-law, whom he dearly loved, Trudie Stalnaker of Village Care of King, NC; sister-in-law and husband Linda and Jimmy Johnson of Mount Airy, NC; brother-in-law and wife Joseph Jr. and Eileen Beasley of Kernersville, NC; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Poindexter was preceded in death by a sister, Polly Ann Hardy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Friendly Chapel Church, with Rev. Danny Poindexter, Bro. Don Collins and Bro. Jerry Pardue officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Friends Meeting Cemetery, Ararat, NC. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm on Monday, March 12, 2007 at Friendly Chapel Church where his body will remain to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 194 Poplar Springs Road, Siloam, NC. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Rev. and Mrs. Danny Poindexter; their church family and the many friends and neighbors for their love support and prayers during this difficult time.
