Garner Wayne Hensley, Sr

Mr. Garner Wayne Hensley, Sr., age 92 of Meadows of Dan, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on May 16, 1917 to the late Jasper and Priscilla Yates Hensley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hensley was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra H. Russell, and four sisters, Avis Dalton, Alma Burgen, Rada Eanes and Mozelle Bagwell. He was a member of Mayberry Presbyterian Church, and had worked on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ina Cockram Hensley, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Garner Hensley, Jr. of Hillsville and Timothy Jasper and Fely Hensley of Virginia Beach; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda H. and Donald McMann of Burlingame, California and Priscilla H. and Brandon Lanphere of Laurel Fork; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Clarice Austin of Meadows of Dan, Virginia.
