Garvine Collins

Mr. Garvine Collins, age 81, of Pilot Mountain, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.   He  was born on December 20, 1941, in Stokes County to the late Herman and Verneida George Collins.  He was a deacon, Sunday School director, and teacher at Woodville Baptist Church for many years.  Mr. Collins was also a Coach at East Surry High School where he was mainly known as “Coach Collins”.  Mr. Collins loved helping people, and he loved to pass on what he knew about life to his students.  He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will surely be missed by all who knew him.  Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Zelda Simmons Collins; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Brim (JR); son and daughter-in-law, Eric Collins (Leigh Anne); grandchildren, Tyler Brim (Colby), Conner Collins and fiancé Elisabeth Mauldin, Seth Brim and fiancé Victoria Kiger; great grandchildren, Ellie and Shep Brim.  A Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Woodville Baptist Church with service conducted by Rev. Kevin Kilby.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Woodville Baptist Church.  The family would like to say a special thanks to the caregivers at Northern Regional Hospital and those at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for all the care given to Mr. Collins and his family during their time there.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Mr. Collins to the Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
