Gary Mitchell Arnder

Mr. Gary Mitchell Arnder, 57, of Mount Airy, passed away unexpectedly on Friday afternoon, March 11, 2022.  Mr. Arnder was born April 19, 1964, in Surry County, the son of the late Chester Raymond Arnder and Mary Ruth Mosley Arnder Vipperman.  Gary graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1982, and he later graduated with an associate degree from Surry Community College.  Gary was an easygoing gentleman, who was artistic, enjoyed reading books, and played traditional instruments, creating a variety of sounds and rhythms.  He was also an avid football fan and loved watching the Mount Airy High School Bears and the Dallas Cowboys.  His family and friends will remember him best as a kid at heart, enjoying small things and being happy with almost anything, and his love of helping others, including a volunteer at The Blue House Teaching Studio and Gallery Group.  He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Mitchell Wilson of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Tonya Arnder of Cana, VA; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Steve Worrell, Johnny Worrell, Mark Worrell, Noble Mattox, Noetic Mattox, Barker Taylor, Les Singer, Chazz Elstone, Paul Amburn, Jean Amburn, and Wendy Tatman.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Arnder was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Arnder.  The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Kurt Van Drie officiating.  Burial will follow in the Old Hollow Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Blue House Teaching Studio and Gallery Group, Inc., 615 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
