Mr. Gary Lee Chilton, 69, of King passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Chilton was born in Surry County to the late Paul and Ila Jones Chilton. Gary was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. He graduated from North Surry High School and Appalachian State University. He was an elementary school teacher and coach for a few years but spent most of his career as a caring, dedicated insurance agent. He was the founder and owner of Chilton Insurance, serving his customers for twenty-five years. Gary loved his daughters and granddaughters. Gary was a member of the Renfro Masonic Lodge 691 A.F and A.M. He also enjoyed working, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters and sons-in-law, Gari Leigh Chilton Adams and Mitch, Jodi Chilton Brown and Audie, his best friend and mother of his children, Penny Nichols Chilton; granddaughters, Hunter Reece Cottone, Emmerson Dayle Adams, Adleigh Jo Adams, and Holdyn James Adams; one sister and brother-in-law, Jenny Chilton Clapp and Lawrence; one brother and sister-in-law, Bobby Chilton and Sylvia, many nieces and nephews that he loved as well. Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by his parents. The family will celebrate Gary’s life in a private service. No formal visitation will be held. The family wants to personally thank the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and all loving hands that cared for him. We were blessed by such excellent and personal care.
