Mr. Gary Allen Kidd, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday night, April 12, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Kidd was born November 25, 1942, in Surry County, the youngest of two children born to the late Floyd Allen and Hulda Jane Cassell Kidd. Gary was reared in the Dobson community and graduated from Dobson High School in 1960. He continued his education at Mitchell Community College in Statesville, earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in 1962. Mr. Kidd joined the United States Navy in 1963. After four years in the Navy, he joined Quality Mills in Mount Airy, later called Cross Creek Apparel, as a time study engineer. He retired in 2002 as director of transportation after a 35-year career. Subsequently, Gary worked five years (2004-2009) at Q R T, Inc., delivering new Thomas Built Buses all over the United States and Canada. Kidd was a longtime and faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and Mount Airy Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eileen Branch Kidd of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Travis Sink of Advance; a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Janel Kidd of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Ben Sink of Winston-Salem, Joe Sink and his fiancée, Allie Slabach, of Durham, Wesley Sink of Advance, and Jed Kidd and Ellie Kidd, both of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews, Pattie Brintle of Thomasville, Charlie and Wanda Brintle of Yadkinville, and Scott and Wendy Brintle of Mount Airy; and his father-in-law, William Claude Branch of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kidd was preceded in death by a sister, Gail Kidd Brintle; and his mother-in-law, Lina Mae Brindle Branch. A service of worship and celebration of Gary’s life will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 4:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by Dr. Roy E. Stroud and staff at Wake Forest Baptist Health; Dr. Shailaja Raj and staff at Kernersville VA Health Care Center; and Hannah Robertson at American Healthcare Services. Also, the family is truly grateful to Dr. Kim Kinsley and staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their tender, loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
