Mr. Gary Franklin Pruett, 89, passed away on June 16, 2022, at Salemtowne, Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on March 4, 1933, in Mount Airy, NC and the son of George Edward Pruett, Sr. and Eunice Westmoreland Pruett. He graduated from Mount Airy High School and Catawba College and was a veteran of the US Army. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Marianne Jones Pruett, for nearly 65 years. Gary was co-owner of Blue Ridge Burke Insurance. Besides his insurance career, Gary was a life-long member of Grace Moravian Church, Mount Airy. He served his community and church through many organizations including Mount Airy Country Club President and the Moravian Church Southern Province. His volunteer work with the Moravian Church included Salemtowne Board of Directors/Treasurer, Laurel Ridge Camp Board, Provincial Financial Board, and the Provincial Elders Conference. Gary possessed a love of travel and visited all 50 states and many countries including exciting family trips to see polar bears in Canada, African wildlife in the Serengetti, and the exotic species of the Galapagos. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne, his son, Paul Pruett, and many golf and church buddies. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Leo Theard, and son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Pruett, all of Mount Airy. Gary was adored by grandchildren, Trey and Lee Ann Theard, Big Sky, Montana, Hollis Theard, Salisbury, NC, Dr. Kellner Pruett, Greenville, NC., and Meg Pruett, Charlotte, NC as well as one great grandson, Chip Theard of Big Sky, Montana. Gary’s life will be celebrated at a graveside service at Grace Moravian Church God’s Acre, 1401 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 11:00 am with golfing casual attire. The Pruett family will greet friends and family following the graveside service at the home of Gail and Leo Theard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Margaret Leonard Scholarship Fund c/o Grace Moravian Church, 1401 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030, Salemtowne, 190 Moravian Way Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106, or Laurel Ridge Moravian Camp, 124 Pendry Drive, Laurel Springs, NC 28644. The family would like to extend appreciation to the Salemtowne Westerly Place and Salem Square staff for their care. Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is entrusted with his arrangements.
