Mr. Gary Ray Jenkins of Elkin passed away unexpectedly while working in Maryland on June 17, 2023. He was 70 years old. Mr. Jenkins was born in Elkin on March 12, 1953, to the late Margie Ennis Luffman and Hazel Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins retired from Cintas after 30 years of faithful service. He then came out of retirement to drive for Holiday Tours, a job he loved dearly. Mr. Jenkins was a family man down to his core. He was married to the love of his life, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 9, 2023. He loved his daughters so deeply and cherished his role as father. His grandchildren, Kylee and Owen, were the lights of his life. He loved nothing more than being called their Papa. Mr. Jenkins was friendly and kind, he never met a stranger. He brought light wherever he went. Mr. Jenkins had a passion for music. He played southern gospel music with a family band for more than 55 years. Mr. Jenkins was a member of Second Chance Church and a faithful attendee of Granite City Church. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Cook Jenkins; daughters and son-in-law, Melissa Jenkins and Tiffany and Lee Fulton; grandchildren, Kylee Fulton and Owen Fulton; brother, Tommy Jenkins; special nephew, Keith Martin; and many nieces nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Martin. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 1:00 in the afternoon at Second Chance Church with Pastor Terry Coe and Pastor Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 on Saturday at the church. Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy has been entrusted with arrangements.
