Gaston William Hooker

Mr. Gaston William “Tut” Hooker, 88, of 1350 Sparger Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, June 27, 2016, at his home. Mr. Hooker was born November 29, 1927, in Surry County, the son of the late William Murphy and Pencie Ellen Collins Hooker. He retired from Spencer’s Inc. after many years of service and attended Antioch Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Lowe Hooker of the home; a daughter, Sandra Hooker Hiatt of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, William Harold and Mary Seal Hooker of Mount Airy; his grandchildren, Chad and Ashley Hooker, Jake and Amanda Hooker, and Adam Jones; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Hooker, Madelyn Hooker, Wyatt Hooker, Hannah Hooker, and Reid Hooker; many special nieces and nephews; a special great niece, Taylor Goad; two sisters-in-law, Lorene Hooker of Williamsburg, VA, and Hilda Arnder and her husband, Alfred, of Mount Airy; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Rodger and Virginia Lowe of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hooker was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Walter Hiatt, Jr.; four sisters, Leola Woodruff, Arlene Edwards, Inez Miller, and Ruby Barber; and two brothers, Guy Hooker and Estie Hooker. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rusty Reed and the Rev. Dale Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina, Surry County Chapter, P.O. Box 7108, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
