Gay York

Mrs. Gaylia Ann “Gay” Allen York, age 85, Mount Airy, widow of James William (J.W.) York, Sr., passed away at her home on early Tuesday morning, October 20, 2020.  Mrs. York was born in Wake County on January 3, 1935 to the late William Glenwood “W. G.” Allen and Mary Womble Allen.  Mrs. York graduated from Rutherford Regional School of Nursing and was the Register of Deeds for Surry County from 1972 to 1976.  Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Rick Huckaby; two sons and daughters-in-law, James William (Bill) York, Jr. and wife, Maureen, and Byron Allen York and wife Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Ross and Marisol Huckaby, Sarah Huckaby, Elizabeth York Perez and Manny, James William York, III, Christopher Storm York and John Carlos York; two great-grandchildren, Nora Elaine Perez and Gabriel Jay Huckaby; sister Elaine Allen; brother, Clayton Allen, and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. York was preceded in death by her brother, Bud Allen.  Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020 at Skyline Memory Gardens at 10:00 AM with the service conducted by Rev. Alton Bledsoe.  There will not be any formal visitation for Mrs. York at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 400 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
