Mr. Gaylord Duaine Hooker, 80, of Westfield, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021, at his home. Mr. Hooker was born June 9, 1940, in Patrick County, VA, the son of the late Giles Eldridge and Lucy Myrtle Childress Hooker. Duaine served our country in the United States Army during the 60s and was a longtime member of Westfield Baptist Church. He and his late wife, Jeanette, owned and operated Westfield Superette for 34 years before their retirement in 2002. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Paul Hampton of Cayce, SC, and Duainette and Kyle Cullum of West Columbia, SC; a son and daughter-in-law, Gray and Janet Hooker of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Rena Hooker, Breanna Hampton, Miranda Hampton, Christian Hampton, Brayden Cullum, and Olivia Cullum; a sister, Marie Blackwell of Spartanburg, SC; a brother, Ray Hooker of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hooker was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Cox Hooker; a son, Timothy Duaine Hooker; and three brothers, Conley Hooker, Homer Eugene Hooker, and Gordon Hooker. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Wes McGarry and the Rev. Rickey Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM in the fellowship hall of Westfield Baptist Church. Family and friends may also pay their respects on Monday from 12:00 until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
