Gaynell Davis Dancy

Mrs. Gaynell Davis Dancy, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, January 2, 2016, at her home. Mrs. Dancy was born November 9, 1946, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Ervin William and Pauline Stanley Davis. Gaynell was active within and served her community in many ways, including service through the Mount Airy Junior Woman’s Club, the Xi Alpha Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and as secretary at The Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce for 25 years. She retired as a community service coordinator from the North Carolina Department of Corrections and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Lee Dancy, Sr. of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Alisha and Andrew Brown of Mount Airy; a son, Thomas Lee Dancy, Jr. of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Andrew Gray “Beau” Brown, II and Isabella Alexis “Bella” Brown, both of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Fred O’Neal of Dobson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Gray Davis, Sr. and Janice Davis of Dobson and Larry Ray and Theresa Davis of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews, Paige and Alan Zawatsky, Chris O’Neal, Amy and Cory Thorne, and Donald Gray Davis, Jr.; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Margaret and Mack Mast of Lexington. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dancy was preceded in death by an infant brother. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Alex L. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
