Ms. Gaynelle Jefferson Hawks, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Central Continuing Care. Ms. Hawks was born March 4, 1939, in Surry County, to the late Roscoe Jefferson, Sr. and Irene Mae Reynolds Jefferson. She retired from Renfro Hosiery and was a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter, Tammie Lee Turney of Mount Airy; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Shirley Jones of Mount Airy, Pansy Pedigo of King, Barbara Evans of Walnut Cove, Sarah Marie Redman of Kernersville, Doris and James Bullin of Dobson, Josie and Bobby Widner of Crutchfield, and James Williams of Kernersville; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Pamela Jefferson of Mount Airy and Roscoe Jefferson, Jr. and Brenda Jefferson of Lewisville. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hawks was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gail Jones; two sisters, Meacy Williams and Deborah Jefferson; and two brothers, Roy Jarvis Jefferson and Kermit Jefferson. The funeral service will be held Monday, January 10, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jack Anderson and the Rev. Lonnie Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Ivy Green Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
