Mrs. Genevieve “Genny” Parks Edwards, age 91, of Pilot Mountain, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Priddy Manor Assisted Living. She was born on November 8, 1930, in Wilkes County to the late Rev. Pervis Clinton and Ada Victoria Seagraves Parks. Genny attended Ronda High School where she played on the basketball team until graduation. After marrying Russell Edwards, she lived for two years as a military wife in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She and her husband Russell relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she worked for Hanes Brands for 30 years and retired as a quality control specialist. Genny loved her family and was very devoted to them. For many years the family enjoyed an annual summer trip to White Lake and her family continues that tradition today. Genny was very devoted to her grandchildren attending church programs, musical events, ball games, tennis matches, volleyball games, school events, and volunteering at their schools’ events. Genny was very active at Marshall Baptist Church for over 40 years; where she served as a children’s Sunday school teacher, church hospitality committee, choir member, visiting the elderly and the bereaved. Genny also was devoted to her neighborhood bereavement committee. When she and her husband moved to Pilot Mountain, they became members at Beulahland Baptist Church. After retirement, Genny also enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, Russell and their friends. She loved playing games, especially Rook and Hand & Foot. She also enjoyed gardening and canning as well as cleaning her home. Genny loved gospel music and treasured the time she spent at singing events. Left to cherish her memories are daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Edwards Dawson and husband Joey, Ginger Salmons Caston and husband David, daughter-in-law, Kimberly Edwards Muse and husband Mike; five grandchildren, Zachary Dawson and Casie, Jessica Dawson Hill and Wesley, Chase Salmons and Whitney, Jordan E. Yates and Phillip, Christian Blake Salmons; six great-grandchildren, Fitzgerald, Hawkens, and Dallas Dawson, Boone Yates, Peter Salmons, Brooks Hill; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Russell Edwards Sr, son, Arthur “Arty” Russell Edwards Jr, four sisters, Irene Norman, Mary Anderson, Foda Wagoner, infant Mozelle Parks; three brothers, Pervis Clinton “P.C.” Parks, Jr., Rev. Carl Parks, and Bill Parks; and special nephews, Randy Anderson, Tony Anderson. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Beulahland Baptist Church with Rev. John Holmes, Rev. Jim Miller, Rev. Anthony Gordy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Beulahland Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to very faithful friends, J.D. and Carolyn Martin and June Marshall; the staff of Priddy Manor, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and private sitters for the compassion and care shown to Mrs. Edwards.
