Mrs. Genevieve Norman Martin, 66, of 775 Old Buck Shoals Road, Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, May 1, 2009, at her home. She was born April 11, 1943, in Surry County, to the late Carl and Ethel Willard Norman. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Airy Wesleyan Church. Surviving are her husband, John F. Martin, Sr. of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Brent Hawks of Boonville; three sons and daughters-in-law, John Franklin Martin, Jr. and Teresa Martin, Bill and Flo Martin, Bryan and Becky Martin, all of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren and a spouse, Jared and Amy Hawks, Allison Hawks, Kaitlyn Hawks, Emily Martin, Megan Chapman, Will Martin, Bryan Martin, Belle Martin; and a great-grandchild, Laila Hawks; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Doug Wood of Cana, VA, Debbie and Jeff Darnell of Elkin; a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Carolyn Norman of Mount Airy; his step-mother, Sarah Norman of Mount Airy; two step-sisters and their spouses, Gail and Maynard Horton of Stuart, VA, and Glenda and Tommy Cain of Pilot Mountain; and two step-brothers, Russell Knott and H.R. Knott, both of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by a step-brother, Roger Knott; and a special nephew, Darin Calloway. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 3, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Arnold Beard and the Rev. Richard Loman officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
