George Franklin Bailey



Mr. George Franklin Bailey, 77, of Elkin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2010, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Bailey was born September 27, 1932, in Roanoke County, WV, to the late Earl Ernest and Rachel Lee Hollins Bailey. He was a retired plumber from Foster-Haley Plumbing Company and of the Protestant faith. Mr. Bailey was a veteran of the United States Army having served our country during the Korean Conflict and was a proud American. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 13 years, Sandra Marie Ingham Bailey of the home; three daughters, Georgia Bailey-Bourgeois and her husband, David, of Winston-Salem, Frances Prince and her husband, James, of Greensboro, and Tammy Helmstetler and her husband, Tim, of Trinity; three step-children, Alan, Lori, and Bill Daron; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Grinestaff of Lakeland, FL; and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bailey of Elkin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his former wife, Jean Bailey; a son, Tim Bailey; two sisters; and a brother. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, with the Rev. Marty Reece officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Bluefield, WV, with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the loving, compassionate care shown to Mr. Bailey during his illness.
