George Dewel Cooke

Mr. George Dewel Cooke, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Surry Community Health and Rehab in Mount Airy.  Mr. Cooke was born on October 31, 1933, in Surry County, one of eleven children born to the late Annie Novella Arrington and William McKinley Cooke.  George retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after many years of service and was a loyal member of Woodville Baptist Church.  Mr. Cooke is survived by nieces and nephews, William Cooke, III, Cynthia Cooke Taylor, Anne Cooke Holbrook, Celeste Cooke Keely, Edwin Kenneth Cooke, Kerry Cooke Owen, Allison Cooke Williams, Polly Cooke Dimidio, Dianna Cooke Blalock, Donna Cooke Farrington, Terry Clay Cooke, Jerry Ray Cooke, Brigget Cooke Horton, Bobby Cook, Danny Cooke, Ronnie Cooke, Kathy George Templeton, Kaylene George Hatcher, Tammy Cooke Dowell, and Teresa Cooke Jessup; and many grand/great-nieces and nephews..  In addition to his parents, Mr. Cooke was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Cooke George, Doris Cooke Jessup, Mary Nell Cooke, and Peggy Ann Cooke; and brothers, Hersey Lee Cooke, Ezra Glasco Cooke, William Thomas Cooke, Ray Daniel Cooke, Harold Lewis Cooke, and Richard Allen Cooke.  A graveside service will be held at Woodville Baptist Church Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:00 in the morning with Rev. Cynthia Taylor and Rev. Kevin Kilby officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5108 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030, or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.  Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is serving the Cooke family.
