Mr. George Washington Gentry, 78, of 295 Toast Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at his home. Mr. Gentry was born January 22, 1931, in Crumpler, WV, son of the late Elder James Henry Gentry and Maggie Sisk Gentry. He was a retired bricklayer and a member of Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving are five daughters and sons-in-law, Candy Marie and Buddy Jones of West Virginia, Maggie Coe of the home, Robin Tina and Robert Carte of Mount Airy, Kim Rosalee Joyce of Lowgap, and Lisa Michelle and Brian Garrison of South Carolina; two sons and daughters-in-law, George Timothy and Pam Gentry of Galax, VA, and James Albert and Lynn Gentry of Mount Airy; eleven grandchildren, Brad Jones, Tonya Jones, Josh Joyce, Justin Joyce, Winter Rice, Christopher Rice, Megan Gentry, Scarlet Gentry, Kirsten Garrison, Adam Garrison, and Caitlin Garrison; five great-grandchildren, Dakota Jones, Cody Jones, Austin Greer, Trinity Rose, and Haylie Rose; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Magdaline Cain of Sanford, Violet and Joe Bobbitt of Lambsburg, VA, and Frances and Robert Collins of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Gentry; and four sisters, Margaret Shumate, Thelma Cain, Goldie Poe, and Ruth Tucker. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 5, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Ralph Gaines and Elder Steve Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
