George Washington Gillespie

GW Gillespie, age 84, of Dobson, NC passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.  He was born in Surry County on January 1, 1934, to the late William Richard and Mary Vertie Wood Gillespie.  He was a retired Tobacco Buyer for The American Tobacco Co., was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict, and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Treva Wood; brother, Gilbert Gillespie and an infant brother.  Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Denita and Robb Trapp of Statesville; son, David Richard Gillespie of Dobson; three grandchildren, Jessica and Karl Lambert, Kimberly and Cameron Spencer, David Richard II and Michelle Gillespie; great-grandchildren, Connor Lambert and Karissa Lambert; mother of his children Bernice Gillespie of Pounding Mill, VA; sister-in-law, Barbara Gillespie of Flint MI; two nieces and two nephews.  Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with full Military Honors by the Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Honor Guard, Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 2019.  Rev. Alton Bledsoe will officiate the services.  The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Friday, December 7, 2018, from 1:00 PM until the time of his service.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church 272 Oak Grove Church Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
