George Orlando Graves, Jr

Mr. George Orlando Graves, Jr., 87, of 1453 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, passed away Friday afternoon, December 26, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Graves was born July 19, 1921, in Surry County, to the late George Orlando Graves, Sr. and Mary Emma Kelly Graves. He was an assistant scout leader with Boy Scouts of America and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy. George was vice president of Mount Airy Mantel and Table Company for many years. He served as a volunteer with the Mount Airy Rescue Squad for several years and was a member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF and AM. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Allen Graves of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Warren R. Booker of Mount Airy; four sons and a daughter-in-law, George Orlando Graves, III, and Glenda Graves and Allen Graves, all of Mount Airy, John Graves of Peachtree City, GA, and Steven Graves of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren and their spouses, George Orlando Graves, IV, Shane and Molly Graves, Alicia and David Farris, Tiffany and Jason Burkholder, Joshua Booker and fiancee, Bambi Shelton, and Brooke Graves, all of Mount Airy, Calvin Graves and Christina Graves, both of Peachtree City, GA, and Ryan Graves of Winston-Salem; and three great-grandchildren, Riley Graves, Jackson Graves, and Kylee Booker, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Graves was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin Kelly Graves; and two half-sisters, Belle Graves Haskin Whitaker and Sarah Graves Harkrader. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. Steve Lindsley and the Rev. Vladimir Strejcek, and entombment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
