Mr. George Nathaniel Holyfield, age 78, of Dobson passed away on Tuesday morning January 12, 2010 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born on June 23, 1931 to the late John William and Ada Wood Holyfield. George was well known and loved by the people of Dobson and Surry County. George was real active in the Republican Party in his early years, and was a well known contractor and had built many buildings and homes through out Surry County. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Flora Key and Jessie Harrell; seven brothers Grover, Lum, Joe, Willie, Johnnie, Frank, and Rufus Holyfield. Surviving is his wife of over 57 years Lorene White Holyfield of the home; several nieces and nephews; one special niece, Joyce Simmons of Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held Thursday January 14, 2010 at 7:30 PM in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson with burial to follow on Friday January 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Chaplin Todd Byrd will officiate the service. The music will be provided by Millette Collins. The family would like to give many thanks to the ladies at the Light House Restaurant in Dobson, and also to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Holyfield family.
