George Warren Jones

Mr. George Warren Jones, 85, of 1687 Old Fancy Gap Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Jones was born September 2, 1926, in Alamance County, to the late William A. and Margaret Beulah Holmes Jones. He retired from the United States Army after 35 years of service. Mr. Jones was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lela Mae Atkins Jones of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty Ruth and Zane G. Goins of Mount Airy, Kay J. and Gary Surratt of Lambsburg, VA, and Rachel J. Barker of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, the Rev. George Junior Jones and Ricky and Candy Lovill Jones, all of Mount Airy; three granddaughters; a grandson; four great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Betty Flynn of Mebane; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Polly Jones of Florida; several nieces and nephews; two special sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Jones; a sister, Marie Atkins; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Mandy Sawyers. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Tucker, the Rev. Darrell Price, and the Rev. Butch Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the United States Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at White Plains Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to White Plains Christian School, 614 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
