George David Lawson

Mr. George David Lawson, 64, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Lawson was born January 6, 1953, in Surry County, to Mary Lou White Lawson and the late Edward Lawson. During his childhood, his summers were filled with working in tobacco and swimming in the river with his parents and three siblings. After serving with the 82nd Airborne, David pursued a career in construction, including owning L&L Builders and with his last position being a superintendent at Blue Ridge Enterprises. David gave his all to anything he did, whether it is work, family, or play. His favorite times were at Philpott Lake with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Frances “Frankie” Clement Lawson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tina Wilkinson and Whitney and Tony Martin; a stepson, Wes Berrier; four grandchildren, Worth Wilkinson, Addison Martin, Blake Hudnall, and Max Berrier; his mother, Mary Lou White Lawson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Cheryl Lawson and Mike and Nancy Lawson; a sister, Rebecca Lawson; and special friends, Tracy Todd Allen and Smitty and Shirley Clement. In addition to his father, Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by a nephew, Andrew Lawson. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Oscar Hill and the Rev. Joe Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday February 21, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
