Mr. George Harrison Martin, age 76, a loving husband, father and grandfather, of 714 Norman Road, Mt. Airy, NC, and the husband of Mrs. Sandra Hall Martin went to be with the Lord Friday morning, December 28, 2007 at his home. He was born November 16, 1931 in Stokes County to the late Elisha P. and Emma Pell Martin. He had served 2 years in the US Army and was a retired custodian and bus driver at Westfield School. He was also a retired farmer and painter. Mr. Martin was a member of Woodville Baptist Church where he had served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and was a member of the church choir. He loved playing golf with his special group of golfing buddies and enjoyed watching most sports on the TV. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Sandra H. Martin of the home; a daughter, Gail M. Walden, Mt. Airy; four sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and DeDe Martin, Garner, Brad and Trish Martin, Mt. Airy, Doug and Bonnie Martin, Stuttgart, Germany, Steve and Kelly Martin, Mt. Airy; ten grandchildren, Cindy Thomas, Ben and Jansen Martin, Abbey and Ryan Martin all of Mt. Airy, Levi and Colby Martin of Garner, Hunter, Raleigh and Chloe Martin all of Stuttgart, Germany; mother-in-law, Tincy Hall, Mt. Airy; three sisters, Jessie Melton, Richmond, VA, Grace Marion, Pilot Mountain, and Carolyn Collins, Mt. Airy; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Elisha and Patricia Martin, Kenneth and Betty Martin all of Mt. Airy, Mike and Linda Martin, Virginia Beach, VA, Gary and Pat Martin, Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a sister, Aileen Martin and a brother, Dennis Martin. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Woodville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. J. Cecil Hill and Rev. Keith Love where his body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Saturday night at Woodville Baptist Church where he will be placed at 4:00 PM Saturday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Woodville Baptist Church Building Fund c/o Mrs. Geraldine Inman, 4242 Westfield Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
