George Henry Mobley

Mr. George Henry Mobley, 87, of Wilson, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville. Mr. Mobley was born July 5, 1922, in Wilson County, to George Nicholas and Elizabeth Lamm Mobley. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart for his bravery. Surviving are grandchildren, Tina Black and husband, Bill, of Rural Hall, Kristal Tickle and husband, Keith, of King, Joey Reid of Greensboro, Ashley Doyle and husband, Kevin, of Winston-Salem, and Amber Freeman and husband, Jeff, of Francisco; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Bridges and Lea Alice Holland, both of Wilson; and a son-in-law, Walter Reid. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mobley was preceded in death by his wife, Ossie Mae Hiatt Mobley; a daughter, Wanda Reid; a son, Danny Mobley; two sisters, Irene Lucas and Magdalene Mobley; and three brothers, Wade Mobley, Bruce Bass, and Ernest Mobley. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 31, 2009, at 3:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
