George Ewart Rives

Mr. George Ewart Rives, age 86 of Mt. Airy, widower of Cleta Nell Wilborn Rives passed away Friday, July 4, 2008 at Golden Living - Surry Community Nursing Center in Mt. Airy. Mr. Rives was born on April 7, 1922 in Chatham County to the late George Edward and Lydia Cheek Rives. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway and was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He dedicated 50 years of service to the Lions Club holding various offices including president. Mr. Rives is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wilborn and Cathy Rives of Mt. Airy and Dr. David V. and Marinda Rives of Clinton; six grandchildren, Isaac Rives, Catherine Rives, Andy Rives, Robbie Rives, Will Rives and Ted Rives; a sister, Mary Irma Moore of Farmville, NC. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, July 7, 2008 at Central United Methodist Church by Rev. John Ferree and Rev. Tom Bagnal with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The Rives family will receive friends in the Ladies Parlor of Central United Methodist Church from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, Roofing Fund, 1909 N Main St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
