George Franklin Saylor

Mr. George Franklin Saylor, age 83, of State Road, passed away peacefully on Friday November 6, 2009 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born in Forsyth County on December 5, 1925 to the late Joseph Allen and Lila Mae Bowen Saylor. Mr. Saylor was a retired veteran of the United States Navy having faithfully served our country for more than twenty years. He was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Mountain Park" where he worked diligently with the Mountain Park community and gave generously to the area churches. A faithful member of the Elkin VFW, he enjoyed meeting daily with friends of the "McDonalds Breakfast Group". He is survived by a sister, JoAnn Saylor Kistler of Statesville; ten nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Hazel Saylor. In addition to his parents, Mr. Saylor was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Doris Faye Callaway Saylor; a sister, Ethel Saylor Callaway and a brother, Jim Saylor. His funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday November 9, 2009 at Charity Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Russell Nixon and Rev. Spencer King with Eulogy by his sister, JoAnn Kister. Burial will follow in Mountain Park cemetery with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017, or to the Mountain Park Youth Foundation c/o Lynn Walters 751 Mountain Park Road, State Road, NC 28676. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 5 until 7 pm where his body will remain to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Saylor family.
