Georgia Simpson Sumner

Mrs. Georgia Simpson Sumner, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, January 16, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mrs. Sumner was born May 25, 1935, in Surry County, one of twelve children born to the late Eugene and Josie Bingman Simpson.  Georgia dedicated her life to the creation of a loving home for her family.  She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Terry Sumner Davis and Mary and Darrell Danley; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Billy Gray and Kimberly Sumner, Rickie and Janet Sumner, Jerry and Kathy Sumner, and Bobby Sumner; sixteen grandchildren, Kevin Sumner, Donna Stanley, Tabatha Casstevens, Teirraha Lowe, Deanna Dickens, Zack Deel, Richard Sumner, Ronnie Sumner, Jordan Sumner, Ashley Sumner Gregory, Heather Thompson, Michael Davis, Jr., Taran Beshers, Hunter Danley, Cory Sumner, and Courtney Hill; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Simpson Nichols; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sumner was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Junior “Bill” Sumner; a son, Billy Wayne Sumner; seven sisters, Roxie Simpson, Thelma Carter, Kathleen East, Vernice Bowman, Eva Durham, Tavie Shumate, and Stella Marion; and three brothers, Fred Simpson, Delmar Simpson, and Gilbert Simpson.  The funeral service will be held Friday, January 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Arlis Thomas and the Rev. Larry E. Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC  27017.
