Mrs. Gertrude Bingman Johnson, 89, of 628 South South Street, Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, May 16, 2011, at Kernersville Medical Center in Kernersville. Mrs. Johnson was born January 14, 1922, in Surry County, daughter of the late John and Mattie Mae Simpson Bingman. Gertrude retired from Renfro Corporation after many years of service and attended The Salvation Army. She is survived by a special niece, Lou Lambert and her husband, Stephen Quentin, of Winston-Salem; a great niece, Laura Lynne Quentin of Winston-Salem; and a great nephew, Mark Quentin of Boulder, CO. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edgar Johnson; a sister, Lucille Bingman Lambert; and a brother, Grady Bingman. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with Major Michael Rodgers officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 651 South South Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
