Gilmer Ray Jessup

Mr. Gilmer Ray Jessup, 74, of Pilot Mountain passed away at his home Saturday, June 9, 2018.  He was born in Surry County October 22, 1943, to the late James Porter and Donie Mae Cain Jessup.  Mr. Jessup was known for his strong faith and his eager willingness to help others.  He was the owner of Jessup's Floor Covering in Pilot Mountain.  Mr. Jessup was a member of Jessup Grove Baptist Church, serving on various committees and positions throughout his life.  He was the Vice-President of Surry Telephone Membership Corporation and a board member of Piedmont Communications; also a member of the South Westfield Ruritan Club, a member of Gideon International, a founding board member for the Edward M. Armfield, Sr. Civic Center, and a former member of the board of directors for the Pilot Mountain Fire Department.  Mr. Jessup was devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.  Mr. Jessup is survived by his wife, Judy Joyce Jessup; daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Tommy Martin, Andrea and Josh Simpson; grandchildren, C.T. Martin and wife Courtney, Katherine Martin and fiancé Dalton Ponder, Leah Simpson and Tye Simpson; great grandson Gabriel Martin.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Jessup was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Jane Cook; and a brother, Lindo Jessup.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Jessup Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Clement and Rev. Dale Riddle officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.  Flowers will be accepted or the consideration of memorial contributions to ministries that Mr. Jessup felt so compelled to support will also be appreciated.  He personally supported both of these ministries, by volunteering with the Gideon’s and also assisted in raising monies for Johan Pansegrouw, South African Ministry, after having personally visited the country and seeing the poor living conditions and the extreme need for water.  Gideon International, P.
