Mr. Gilmer Earl Rippey, 67, of Cana, VA, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. Mr. Rippey was born May 1, 1942, in Grayson County, VA, to the late Dallas Harmon and Beulah Forest Rippey. He retired from sawmilling and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Rippey is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Richard Niten and Sharon Lynn and Steven Snow, all of Mount Airy, and Mary Leigh Leftwich; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gilmer Dean and Karen Rippey and Eddie and Carolyn Rippey, all of Cana, VA; nine grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Geneva and Billy Hawks of Mount Airy and Mary Ann Fitzgerald of Burlington; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Helen Rippey of Galax, VA, Randy and Becky Rippey of Fancy Gap, VA, and Curtis and Patricia Rippey of Burlington; and a special friend, John Billard of Sparta. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rippey preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hawks Rippey; a very special grandson, Joseph Rippey; a sister, Elsie Kinzer; and two brothers, Roger Rippey and Harmon Rippey. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Albert Everidge and the Rev. Mike Hawks officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, June 22, 2009, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
