Ginger Coyalee (Sykes) Bode

Mrs. Ginger Coyalee Sykes Bode, age 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday night, July 4, 2022, at SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville.  Mrs. Bode was born on May 4, 1935, in Surry County, to the late, Coy Leonard and Essie Faye Snow Sykes.  Ginger was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  Ginger was also well-known as an old-time musician in Mount Airy.  She and her husband were long time members of the Toast Stringstretchers.  Mrs. Bode was recently honored by Surry Arts Council as one of the “Surry County Women of Old Time Music” members.  Ginger will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Bode Hale and husband Daniel; a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Bode and Tammy; grandchildren, Emily Hale and Travis Pike, Sara Hale and John Strickland, Lora Bode Hill and Eric; one great-grandchild; Katy Hill; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bode was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Lewis Bode; two sisters, Launa Sykes Lankford Wilson, Fern Sykes Key; and two brothers Teddie Sykes, Paul “Pete” Sykes.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Paul Bunke officiating.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 12:00 until 2:00 at Moody Funeral Home.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and the SECU Hospice Home in Yadkinville for their love and care given to Mrs. Bode.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
