Gladys Mae Bowman Boyd

Mrs. Gladys Mae Bowman Boyd, 93, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Twelve Oaks in Mt. Airy. She was born in Patrick County on April 16, 1922 to the late Dewey Lee and Martha Ann Hall Bowman. Mrs. Boyd was retired from Smart Top Hosiery and was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Janet Smith of Surfside Beach, SC, Glenna and Greg Hicks of Mt. Airy; sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Bowman of Mt. Airy, Winfrey and Shelby Boyd of Jefferson; grandchildren, Sammy Bowman, Sabrina Robertson, Chris Boyd, Christy Cheek, Jennifer Boyd, Shane Hicks, and Miranda Hicks; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Opal Bateman of Ararat, VA, Margaret Dowdy, Frances and Weldon Tobler all of Mt. Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Louise Bowman of Winston Salem; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by a grandchild, Joshua Smith; sisters, Marie Bowman, and Rosanne Haymore; a brother, John D. Bowman. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist, the Rev. Homer Bowman, and Mr. Weldon Tobler officiating.
