Mrs. Elsie Norine “Gladys” Edwards Goins, 90, of Mount Airy, was welcomed to her heavenly home Thursday night, January 16, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Carroll County on August 13, 1929 to the late John W. and Susie Thomas Edwards.  Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor who will be missed by all that knew her. Known for her strong faith, hard work, and perseverance , Mammie left an impact on the lives of others as a member at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church, her time volunteering at Northern Regional Hospital, and her career at Perry Manufacturing.  Left to cherish her loving memory and carry on her legacy are two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Don Shelton, and Sandra and Tim Scott; 13 grandchildren, Jonathan Derrick Goins, Jenny Conklin and husband Jordan, Colby Scott and wife Courtney, Sidney Hunter and husband Andrew, Marty Shelton and Darrell Parker, Kim Collins and husband Jeff, Todd Shelton, Velvet Cowen and husband Bill, Alison Transou, Jeffrey Transou and wife Stacy, Lindsey Zimmerman and husband Chad, Zachary Willis, and Morgan Willis; 21 great-grandchildren, Breanna, Lacy, Ellie, Crews, Tate, Worth, Scout, Annie Mae, Olsen, Cody, Courtney, Korbyn, Kolte, Adam, Amanda, Cory, Clayton, Ariel, Audrey, Everly, and Emerson; and nieces and nephews, Betty, Donna, Tim and wife Karen, and Ted and wife Amy and family.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goins was preceded in death by her husband, Roby Lee Goins, Sr.; a daughter, Carolyn Transou, a son, Roby Lee Goins, Jr.; two grandsons, Roby Lee Goins, III, and Michael Shane Goins; a great-granddaughter, Kristin Olivia Goins; sister, Ida Mae Edwards, and brothers, Jonie, Donald, and Cabble “Bill” Edwards.  Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 19 at 4:00PM at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church with Rev. Richard Loman and Rev. Eric Smith officiating.  A private burial will take place Monday morning at Oakdale Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday, January 18 at Moody Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00PM.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to Northern Regional Hospital Skilled Care.
