Mrs. Glenda Lena Thomas Pike, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 9, 2022. She was born February 6, 1932, in Surry County, one of 10 children born to the late John Samuel Thomas and Annie Mathis Thomas. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was always ready to welcome friends and family for meals and fellowship. Mrs. Pike made, sold, and installed draperies for many years and had a fondness for teapots. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandy and Dennis Atkins, and Barbara Riley; four grandchildren, Angie and Richard Smith, Benji Atkins and special friend Angela Bradshaw, Sam and Alex Riley, and Charles and Marissa Riley; five great-grandchildren, Isaac Riley, Olivia Smith, Noah Riley, Grant Smith, and Isabella Holder; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Virginia “Sis” and Carl Norman, Betty Thomas, Tina and Joe Wright, and Pansy Cromer; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Annie Thomas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Betty Pike; and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Glenda was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Glenn Edward Pike; two sisters, Nellie V. Thomas, and Jo Anna Thomas Vernon; and two brothers, Roy Weldon “Chub” Thomas, and Bobby Lee “Bunk” Thomas. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022, in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel at 3:30PM with Minister Jared Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:15 – 3:30PM at the funeral home and Saturday from 1:00 – 5:00PM at the home of Mrs. Pike. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030. The Family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the special caregivers for Mrs. Pike. They are Alledia Hess, Linda Brindle, Jo Ann Lawson, Linda Childress, Donah Blalock, Fay Pruitt, and Tracy Petty. The Pike family is very thankful for all of the love and care given to Mrs. Pike and the family from Mountain Valley Hospice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Pike family.
