Mr. Glenn East, 71, of White Plains, passed away Wednesday morning, June 16, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. East was born June 22, 1938, in Surry County, son of the late James Earl and Clursie Lowry East. Glenn retired from the Surry County Public Works Department and was a member of Rockford Street United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruby Bunker East of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Benny Lee and Jayna Simmons East and James Byron and Tammy Hudson East, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Kali East, Lakin East, and Greta East, all of Mount Airy; a sister, Annie Mae East Calloway of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, William Edward and Nonnie East of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. East was preceded in death by a half-brother, Robert Earl East. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 18, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Harry Sherrill and the Rev. Glenda Bramlet officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their appreciation to Betsy Johnson, Dr. Thomas Grote, and the entire staff of the oncology department at Forsyth Medical Center.
